Ingredients
Scale
- 8 pork or beef sausages
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup milk or cream
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup beef or vegetable stock
- 1 cup peas or carrots (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Once soft, drain the water and mash the potatoes with butter and a splash of milk or cream until smooth.
- In a pan, cook the sausages over medium heat until they are nicely browned and cooked through, approximately 15 minutes.
- In the same pan, add sliced onions and sauté them until they are caramelized and sweet, about 10 minutes.
- Pour the beef or vegetable stock into the pan with the onions to make a rich gravy. Let it simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.
- If using vegetables, cook peas or carrots according to package instructions.
- Serve the sausages on top of the creamy mashed potatoes, covered in the onion gravy with vegetables on the side.
Notes
- For extra creamy mash, use a potato ricer for a smoother texture.
- Feel free to mix in your favorite herbs or spices into the mashed potatoes for more flavor.
- Try different types of sausages, like chicken or turkey, for a lighter option.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, simply warm it up in the microwave or on the stove.
- For variation, try adding sautéed greens or using mushroom gravy for added depth of flavor.
