Description
A classic comfort food featuring tender beef patties topped with a savory mushroom gravy. Quick to prepare, making it perfect for busy weeknights or cozy family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides. Remove from the pan.
- In the same skillet, add mushrooms and cook until soft.
- Sprinkle flour over mushrooms, stir, and gradually add beef broth, stirring until thickened.
- Return patties to the skillet, cover with sauce, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- Make sure the beef patties are evenly shaped for even cooking.
- Don’t rush the simmering step; this allows the flavors to meld together perfectly.
- Feel free to add your favorite spices to the meat mixture for extra flavor.
- Ground turkey can be substituted for beef, though the flavor will be slightly different.
- If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, you can substitute with soy sauce or a mix of ketchup and vinegar.
- This recipe can be prepared ahead of time.
