Description

A classic comfort food featuring tender beef patties topped with a savory mushroom gravy. Quick to prepare, making it perfect for busy weeknights or cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides. Remove from the pan.
  3. In the same skillet, add mushrooms and cook until soft.
  4. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms, stir, and gradually add beef broth, stirring until thickened.
  5. Return patties to the skillet, cover with sauce, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • Make sure the beef patties are evenly shaped for even cooking.
  • Don’t rush the simmering step; this allows the flavors to meld together perfectly.
  • Feel free to add your favorite spices to the meat mixture for extra flavor.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for beef, though the flavor will be slightly different.
  • If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, you can substitute with soy sauce or a mix of ketchup and vinegar.
  • This recipe can be prepared ahead of time.
