Description

A delicious low-carb alternative to traditional sourdough bread, made with keto-friendly ingredients like almond flour and psyllium husk. This bread offers the same tangy, slightly chewy texture and earthy flavor as traditional sourdough, but with minimal carbs to fit a ketogenic lifestyle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed
  • 1/4 cup psyllium husk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients (almond flour, ground flaxseed, psyllium husk, baking powder, and salt) in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients (eggs, apple cider vinegar, and warm water).
  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until the dough begins to form. It should be slightly sticky but firm enough to hold its shape.
  4. Shape the dough into a loaf and transfer it to a lined baking sheet or a loaf pan.
  5. Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes to allow the psyllium husk to absorb the moisture and firm up the dough.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake the loaf for 40-45 minutes, or until it turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For best results, allow the bread to cool completely before slicing to ensure proper texture.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator.
  • This bread can be frozen for longer storage – slice before freezing for convenience.
  • For a vegan version, replace eggs with flax eggs (1 tbsp ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tbsp water per egg).
  • Add herbs or seeds like rosemary or sunflower seeds for additional flavor variations.
