Buttery, flaky scones packed with sharp cheddar cheese. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a companion to soups and salads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chives (if using).
- Add the milk gradually, stirring until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
- Roll out to about 1-inch thickness and cut into rounds or triangles.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Use cold butter for the best flaky texture.
- Don’t over-knead the dough; just a few gentle folds will do.
- Feel free to add spices or herbs for extra flavor, like garlic powder or thyme.
- Try substituting with different cheeses like mozzarella or Gouda for variation.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Can be frozen for longer storage and reheated in oven or microwave.
