Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
- 4 large flour tortillas (10–12 inch/25-30cm diameter)
- 4 small corn tortillas or tostada shells
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend)
- ¼ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup burger sauce or thousand island dressing
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season ground beef with salt and pepper, divide into 4 equal portions. Form thin patties slightly larger than corn tortillas. Make a small indent in center of each patty.
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
- Prepare assembly station with all toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, sour cream, and sauce.
- Place large flour tortilla on flat surface. Spread 1 tablespoon burger sauce in center.
- Place cooked patty on sauce. Add cheese, followed by corn tortilla or tostada shell.
- Add lettuce, tomato, onions, and sour cream on top of crispy layer.
- Fold edges of large tortilla toward center, creating 5-6 overlapping folds to form a hexagon.
- Heat remaining oil in skillet over medium heat. Place wrap folded-side down and cook 2-3 minutes until golden. Flip and cook other side 2 minutes.
Notes
- For a leaner option, swap ground beef with ground turkey or chicken (add 1 tablespoon olive oil for juiciness)
- Plant-based ground meat works for a vegetarian version
- Use dairy-free cheese and vegan sour cream for dairy-free option
- Gluten-free tortillas work perfectly for avoiding gluten
- Room temperature tortillas fold better without cracking
- Don’t overstuff the wrap to prevent bursting
- The crispy element is essential for the signature texture
- Pre-cooked components can be prepared up to 2 days ahead
- Reheat leftovers in a dry skillet for best results
